ScreenPad 2.0 will only function as 2nd display
Hey all, I have a Vivobook S15 S532FL/X532FLC laptop with a ScreenPad 2.0 and it has lost all functionality except for being basic display. I could really use some help to restore at least basic touchpad functions.
Scenario -
The ScreenPad was working normally until I performed a full system wipe/reset. After Windows 11 reinstall all the needed device drivers were auto-installed except for the screenpad drivers. Windows gives this device a generic display driver instead. I then manualy install the ScreenPad 2.0 drivers/apps per Asus's specific instructions in their reinstall FAQ but this has no effect and the screenpad is still only seen as a generic display by Windows.
Details -
Windows does not recognize the hardware as anything other than a "Generic Monitor" and will not install the ScreenPad drivers, even if I try to install the drivers manually. (See screenshot of Device Manager)
In the Device Manager the HID drivers and the mouse drivers for screenpad/touchpad are missing, even after using Asus driver installers and with no way to manually install because Windows doesn't "see" a device that needs these (the HID device/mouse installed in screenshot is my external bluetooth mouse).
After installing all of the drivers/apps im instructed to run the ScreenPad 2.0 Optimizer app but it always fails at the end with an error code. (See screenshot)
The Touchpad options section in Windows 11 is completely missing from System Settings and Control Panel.
The display resolution for the screenpad (as a generic display) defaults to 2160 x 1080 as the only option in settings.
The BIOS has no section or options that relate to a screenpad or touchpad (Im not sure if that is normal for my model or not but I thought it was odd).
The F6 key which is the Hotkey to toggle between touchpad/screenpad/disabled does not work, but all of the other system hot keys on the F row work.
Troubleshooting -
Followed all Asus install and troubleshooting instructions from their KB
Checked all driver updates from Asus and Windows update and the BIOS is already on the newest version (305)
" Opened up the laptop and double checked all connections between screenpad and mobo were secured.
Performed another system reset and followed the specific screenpad 2.0 install instructions including the order of items again with the same result.
Tried any possible way I can think of to manually install the drivers with no luck. Windows will not allow it even when using the "have disk" option. I get an incompatibility error. Windows just does not "see" a screenpad/touchpad device or even an unidentified device I can install drivers on.
Im at a loss at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions (other than paying Asus support)? I don't believe this is a hardware issue since the loss of functionality was specifically tied to the system reset event.
Is there a way to trick Windows so I can get it to see the device as something other than a generic monitor?
