I love how how Yurgir can completely solo this greater devil
In my first run I nat 20 convinced Yurgir to side against Raphael with me in the HoH, then I immediately proceeded to Blade Barrier the arena in a specific way that sectioned off Raphael and Yurgir so they were forced to fight each other.
Raphael has around 5 to 6 times the HP of Yurgir, has a bunch of powerful spells, a super devil transformation and lore wise he’s the son of the second most powerful archdevil in all the realms. Whereas Yurgir is an Orthon, a fiend type not actually even considered a “greater devil” let alone an archdevil.
Yurgir in his solo fight with Raphael completely CURBSTOMPED him, and I absolutely love how realistic this is.
Yurgir kept going invisible at the end of his turn after knifing Raphael in the back again and again and again, Raphael spent the whole fight looking around all over the place trying in vain to find his traitorous general, continuously insulting him whilst unable to actually match his bite to his bark. Raphael didn’t land a SINGLE hit.
Lore wise this makes so much sense. Raphael is unfathomably more powerful than Yurgir but he’s an aristocratic nepo-baby that has likely never been in a serious physical confrontation in his immortal life, instead preferring guile, manipulation and pacts. Whereas Yurgir is a veteran of the Blood War, a seemingly eternal struggle between devils and demons.
A lot of people on the internet like to ask “who would win in a fight between…” questions and use power levels as the basis for determining the victor, but Yurgir out here with lesser attack power, endurance, abilities and, well, EVERYTHING, than his opponent, and yet he kicked said opponent’s ass because they’re not actually an experienced fighter like he is.
It was so satisfying watching Raphael get his ass beat by a lesser after all that sass and arrogance, the fight was taking a while so I did free them from the Blade Barrier after wiping out the minions so I could kick the shit out of him with the lads, but Yurgir is the real mvp, in a way he embodies many DnD players; overcoming superior monsters with galaxy brain tactics rather than having bigger stats than every enemy.
I know he turns babies into lawn chairs but he’s stolen my heart, I stan Yurgir ❤️
