Uneven front brake pads wear - 2024 GT Turbo
While driving home from work recently, I started hearing the front brake squealers on my 2024 CX-50. It caught me off guard since the car has only 18,000 km on it. I already have a service appointment booked, but since the dealer is far away and I put on a lot of daily mileage, I decided to replace the brake pads myself to avoid damaging the rotors further. (It's a straightforward job and not my first time doing it.)
As you can see from the photos, the inside pad was completely worn down, while the outside pad is almost like new. After doing some research, I found that some '23/24 CX-50s have issues with the caliper slider pins sticking, which causes uneven pad wear—only the inside pad gets used.
How should I approach Mazda about this issue? Will replacing the pads myself affect the warranty on the brakes? I've seen reports of Mazda attributing this type of wear to driving habits, but I’m confident that’s not the case here. Should I reinstall the old pads before taking the car to the dealer so they can inspect them? Any advice on how to handle this would be much appreciated.
