International Shipping During Strike... Next Steps?

I purchased an expensive small electronics item (worth more than $300) on November 24th from Japan. From what I have read online, due to the strike the item is being held by Canadian Customs. I also understand that Japan Post usually finishes its shipping through Canada post at this time. Historically these packages have arrived very quickly.

Is my only recourse to wait until Canada Post has worked through its backlog? Or is it possible this item could be lost / stuck in customs forever? Is it possible for me to do diligence and call customs about this specific package?

Thanks for any and all info. As you can imagine I would rather not lose this item as not only is it quite expensive but also quite rare. THANK YOU!!
