Call it what it is: RACISM
Major hypocrisy at work in this community. Cape Cod’s “economic life” may be based on diversity, but until that’s reflected in the public and institutional life of Cape Cod, it amounts to mere lip service…or worse; exploitation.
Paying comparatively-low wages to J1 visa holders has nothing to do with being or building an inclusive community. It’s an expressly-economic solution to the much greater problem of socioeconomic inequity currently ravaging Cape Cod’s working class.
Until our leaders and courts stand up to the wealthy families who use money to shield violent kids from the consequences of their own actions, this community deserves no back-patting. I’m more interested in whether we can trust local law enforcement to protect our neighbors from ICE, as we tell them to “come on down.” I’m thinking not.
