Were they pretending all along?

Why does your extended family on your ex spouses side go from loving you, to not even reaching out to you post divorce. Even when the divorce was caused by the ex spouse, were they pretending to love you all along ? Its a real mind f*** to the good person of the relationship. It shows the true colors of humans you though you kind and actually loved you.
