MTG 30th Anniversary Edition: WotC is charging $999 for what amount to proxies.

Just announced today is the 30th Anniversary Edition collection of Magic cards, as seen here: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/celebrate-30-years-magic-gathering-30th-anniversary-edition-2022-10-04

These come with 4 booster packs containing 15 cards each and will sell for $999 a set. That means you can whiff and spend nearly $1000 on undesirable cards. In addition, these cards display a custom card backing, making them illegal for tournament play; these are functionally identical to proxies.

WotC states that these cards are meant to be seen as a collectible, and while it is true that you certainly don't have to purchase them, I think these are a hilariously bad prospect. I think they're cool and I can see a certain appeal, but in no way do I think $999 is justified.
