A solid amount of GG fans (especially teen ones) are Season 1 Jenny’s and don’t want to admit it
What I meant by this is a solid amount of Gossip Girl fans want to emulate Blair in one way or another (for example I love her style/aesthetic and work ethic) but when it comes to money we will never BE Blair. We will never be old money, living in an expensive penthouse apartment with a maid and a designer wardrobe. I’m sure very very VERY few Gossip Girl fans do have that life, but the vast majority of us do not. And some of us do want some variation of it: for example, I would never EVER want the drama that comes with being a character in the Gossip Girl universe, but I would never pass up on a Manhattan luxury penthouse or a beautiful wardrobe full of gorgeous clothes.
I’m 21 and when I was a teen I wanted popularity and beauty and a load of money. I’m learning to look past that and love myself more as an adult, but when I was younger I wanted to feel accepted. Season 1 Jenny represents that need for acceptance beautifully and accurately. Jenny represents every scholarship private schooler or just any non-rich private schoolers in general who are longing to feel accepted and part of the in crowd. And also even public schoolers with richer and/or more popular friends can relate to Jenny in some regard.
And Jenny throughout the series is a perfect representation of an average happy teenage girl being destroyed in so many ways by being around the wrong people at the wrong time. Something that a lot of us can relate to in some regard. I feel like Jenny started off as a self insert for teen girl watchers in Season 1 but the directors and Taylor changed her character. But throughout the seasons she was in, she had incredible amounts of depth and strength.
