[DISCUSSION] Stratocaster vs Les Paul?

No, this is not a "I'm a noob, which one do I buy" question. I just want to know you guys' opinions on which you like better. Doesn't matter if it's a Squier or a Fender, an Epiphone or a Gibson.

I own both and they both have their pros and cons. The Stratocaster is a much more durable instrument (i.e. I feel good ahout setting it on my stand without the headstock breaking if it falls) and has a trem, it has a double cuttaway so the high frets are easier to access, it's more ergonomical, it's easier to modify, and it has a nice, twangy sound that makes it suitable for genres from indie to surf to funk to country, and the three pickups give the Strat more sonic capabilities that the LP can only dream of.

However, an SSS Strat is just not good at high-gain sounds. Anytime I try to dial in a high gain sound, it sounds wooly and undefined. I was amazed when I got a Les Paul and dialed in a high-gain sound right off the bat. A lot of people complain about the trem making the guitar go out of tune, and imo this was a huge problem with the old six-point trems, but I have a two-point trem on my Strat and it's relatively stable unless I do dive-bombs (which I don't do often). I like having a trem on my Strat.

The Les Paul has a classier yet versatile design than the Stratocaster; it's an instrument that simultaneously wouldn't look out of place in a rock band or next to an orchestra. I find Les Pauls to be easier to play possibly due to the shorter scale, which makes the strings feel looser. Imo it sounds great both clean and with a fuckton of distortion. I was able to get a good, well-defined high-gain sound right away on my LP. I can do palm mutes on my LP easier on my Strat because of the tune-o-matic bridge.

The cons of the LP is that it's a single-cuttaway design so that higher frets are harder to access, the body is a slab of wood unlike the Strat, though for some reason it doesn't bother me personally except the LP has a greater tendency to slide along my leg. The warmer sound of an LP makes it ill-suited for some genres like funk or jangle rock (fun fact: Buddy Holly owned an LP, and he traded it in for a Strat because it wasn't jangly enough), and people bring up the weight but honestly it only feels slightly heavier than my Strat. My biggest issue is the headstock being prone to breaking. I keep my LP in a case all the time because of that. I once knocked over my Strat while frantically searching for my car keys. The guitar was fine, but if that were an LP, the neck would've come right off. I would say that LPs are harder to service but I've never had to open mine up, nor do I plan to. This does however make them less customizable, which I suspect is why you never see them in the indie scene compared to the highly customizable Fenders (in addition to the high price of a Gibson).

Both are great guitars but if I had to pick one, I'd probably pick the Les Paul since my tastes have changed since I bought the Strat and now I mostly listen to bands like Weezer these days.

Which do you prefer? The Strat? The LP? Both? Or do you think they're both overrated? I'd make this a poll but this sub wouldn't let me.
