how to prevent freezing?

I bought this laptop about a year ago and I've loved it so far. Tons of storage, great refresh rate, and the various computer specs are all more than good enough for the games I play.

The only problem I've had is the freezing. It seems really inconsistent, like sometimes I won't get freezes for weeks, and then I'll restart my computer "wrong" once and then it just keeps freezing every 20 or so seconds.

Has anyone else had this problem? It's getting really annoying, and I can't find a fix that's consistent. Restarting my computer addresses the symptom, but I still get the problem frequently. How do I stop this from happening?
