Getting ready to obtain a driver’s License in Luxembourg 🙂
Maybe this info will be useful for you too! You can get a license here, even if you’re not a resident.
There are about 40 driving schools. You can check out the list on the website of the national organization that deals with road traffic: Société Nationale de Circulation Automobile (SNCA).
If you don’t like your driving school, you can switch to another one. Just make sure to grab your student certificate from the old one.
The medical check-up costs €70. You can find a doctor for this on the Doctena website. You’ll need a general practitioner (they’re called GP here).
The theory course is 12 hours long and costs €250.
Practical lessons with an instructor are next. One session costs €80–100, and you’ll need at least 16 sessions 😩 . Expensive.
To prepare for the theory exam, you can also study online using simulators. I used the “Luxembourg driving test simulator” from the Luxtoday website.
Now, besides the usual practice with an instructor, you also need... to do 2 extra hours of practice with a friend or relative! They’ll be responsible for you and even keep a record of your training 😅 . Great excuse to get closer to someone, like saying: “Oh, I’ve got no one to train with, could you please help me out?”
The first driver’s license here is like baby teeth. It doesn’t last long valid for only 2 years. When it “falls out ,” you’ll get your “ permanent” license. Or maybe not, if you drive badly 😂 .
It’s kind of a hassle. Back in the country where I used to live, getting a license was way easier and cheaper. Too bad I didn’t do it when I was younger 🤷 .
