NZXT Kraken Elite 360 RGB (2024)
Since my Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX XT is probably defective, I'm looking around for a new AIO for my system. Since I'm on Linux, I can't really use any OEM RGB control apps and have to resort to OpenRGB instead. On the Corsair AIO, I skipped their hardware controller (a Commander Core) and used Fractal Design fans (I have a Meshify 2 RGB) instead, which I could daisy chain and connect straight to my ASUS motherboard for both RGB and PWM. The 2024 model of the NZXT Kraken Elite 360 RGB does not come with individual fans, but with the F360 RGB Core Fan which uses proprietary connectors for both RGB and PWM to the radiator, meaning I'd have to replace it with the same three 120 mm fans I'm currently using. My questions therefore are as follows:
- Is it possible to replace the F360 RGB Core Fan with 3 regular fans, meaning does the radiator come with 12 holes even though it'd only need 4 to install the bundled fans?
- Is there some kind of "magic" happening when the F360 RGB Core Fan is connected to the radiator with the proprietary plug resulting in better/more silent cooling, so would I be missing out on anything when using three PWM fans from a different manufacturer? I guess the pump still has a regular 3-pin PWM connector to my motherboards AIO port.
- Is there a way to save animations or system info on the device itself (I used a Windows VM for that) so that I do not need to run NZXT CAM?
- If I resort to the NZXT Kraken Elite 360 RGB (2023) model, does it have the same pump? Also, what about non-RGB versions of both model years, do they use the same pump (with the LED ring around the display)?
- Are the RGB plugs of the three fans that come with the NZXT Kraken Elite 360 RGB (2023) proprietary or just regular 3-pin (4-pin with the second one missing)?
Thank you!
