Does the carrier really matter on a 4G phone?

Looking to upgrade to a new carrier. I currently have a phone that supports up to 4g, and I have Walmart family mobile. Coverage in my area is not an issue really, since it’s highly suburban. That being said, I’ve been looking into upgrading to a more structured “company” so I’ve been looking at the T-Mobile essentials plan. With my phone being 4g, is there really going to be much of a difference between T-Mobile and Verizon, at least performance wise?
