Perimenopause at 38?

I have no history of PCOS, endometriosis, cysts, cancer, or any other reproductive anomalies. I had two full term pregnancies in my 20s and had some difficulty conceiving my second at the age of 29. My partner had a successful vasectomy over 5yrs ago, and there is no possibility that I’m pregnant.

I just turned 38 this year, and have been experiencing heavier and significantly more painful periods than I’m used to. My cycle doesn’t last as long as it did in my 20s— anywhere from 3-6 days vs what used to be 7-8 days, but I am still getting my period every month. I’ve also very recently started experiencing hot flashes. Let me explain: this can only be described as a sensation like my core is a furnace. This is a radiating heat that comes on suddenly, makes no sense, and feels like my skin might literally burst into flames. It is usually accompanied by copious amounts of hairline sweat and a tactile intolerance of even my own clothing touching my skin. I have minimal sex drive, compared to what used to be insatiable during ovulation, and I have mood fluctuations similar to what I experienced during both my pregnancies: very easy to cry at/over things (happy or sad) and am just more susceptible to being emotionally overwhelmed lately… which is REALLY out of character for me. Again, I’m not pregnant and there is no possibility of a pregnancy. Is this perimenopause??? Has anyone had any similar experiences in their late 30s??And seriously, when can I expect this to end?? 😮‍💨
