Is ghusl required after defecation according to 4:43 and 5:6?

The word ٱلْغَآئِطِ is used in 4:43 and 5:6 when referring to a state of impurity which would require full bathing (ghusl). According to dictionaries, it refers to using the toilet aka excretion of feces. Why do so many scholars say that only wudu is required and not ghusul when the quran says otherwise? Or am I misunderstanding these ayats here?
