Will Cid ever evolve as a character?
Hi, to make everything clear I like the anime (I just finished the first season), but I'd like to see some some evolution of the main character.
Of course, I understand that him being edgy and unbeatable is the main gag of this show... but to me after the 24 episodes it is starting to feel a bit repetitive when it comes to Cid.
I like the subplots, the side characters, and some of the themes and I think this show/manga has a solid potential... but I'm not sure if the author will try to do anything with that or if he wants to keep the story just as a gag.
If I had to compare my feelings here, to something else, it would be SaikiK... Again, it's a show with great potential, but when I (after many episodes) figured out that the author will never do anything with that potential... I kinda lost interest. When Saiki's friends began to be suspicious of him, I was hoping for some real emotions and evolution of the plot/the main character... but NOPE he erased their memories, and everything went back to the status quo. And when a similar thing happened for the third time, I lost interest, because to me the gag was not funny anymore and the story refused to offer anything else...
Here in The Eminence in Shadow, I feel like at least the side characters are evolving and some of them have interesting storylines. But in the later episodes, I can't help it, but feel like Cid is holding the side characters/the story as a whole back. Because he is so edgy, delusional, egocentric, and not interested in anything/anyone. Plus the author does not seem to want to do anything with that. So my question to you who are in the story beyond the first season is if the author will do anything with Cid in the future, or if I should stop hoping for anything more than a gag???
(I'm not saying that it being just gag would make it bad, I just want to adjust my expectations)
