New A90J owner, coming from 2008 era 1080p Bravia flatscreen (cheaper model)

So I popped on the XBR65A90J for $1400 after owning a 46" 1080p Bravia for over 15 years now. That old Bravia served me well. It wasn't without it's issues. The screen, at a point, would get this solid pinkish hue. A firmware update did fix that. It also never synced very well with my comcast cable box (which originally, was connected via component all those years ago). The TV did have issues with CEC. And within the past 3-4 years it would once in a while either lose signal sync all together, the audio would drop out or it would get staticy distortion on the screen. All of those issues were fixed by simply either power cycling the TV, or removing and reinserting the HDMI cable. Annoying inconveniences aside, it was a wonderful TV that did it's job a long long time.

The leap to this new OLED is breath taking. I've yet to really even watch anything of "good" 4K quality and I'm immediately impressed. The room it's in does get quite a bit of natural light, which I can control decently well with blinds / blackout curtains. My old sony was pretty dim. So while I can understand the overall urge to want non QD-OLED's to be brighter... it's bright enough. The picture quality is just amazing. The SOUND quality is amazing!

Right now, the only problem I have is I am seriously tempted to invest in both the UB820 blu ray player AND a $400+ dennon AV reciever AND at least a good pair of speakers to run (using TV as center) at least a nice 3 channel surround setup. Because hell, if I'm this blown away.... what about dialing up the rest of the upgrades? Right? Haha, not bad problems to have I guess.

I digress though.

One thing that this TV does (that even the old Bravia did without tweaking the motion settings) is what I guess they call "the Soap Oprea" effect. Motion looks weird. Things look artificial. It's almost as if the people in the shot are super imposed over the background in a strange way. I know I cured that on my old Bravia with motion settings, and I think it's been mentioned I can control it a bit simalarly with this new OLED... but that 24p jutter is just more of a thing on an OLED. With one or two minor tweaks, the ones I figured out just by playing in the menu, it's "tolerable" now. But I can see it a bit still. I'll have to research what to change to get that as good as I can.

But wow. What a TV. The build quality is just awesome. The OS snappy. That glossy panel just makes things pop. Super happy to be a member of the Sony 4K Master Series family!
