For people who've had galactoceles...
Hello!
I'm a first time mom and am 6 weeks postpartum with my gorgeous little one. Unfortunately my breastfeeding journey has not been as smooth as I had hoped and 3 weeks PP I developed a very bad case of mastitis which developed into a hard large lump on my right breast which covers half the areola and meant that my little one hasn't been able to latch since it developed so I've been having to pump on the bad side to keep the milk flowing. Luckily the left side has been an MVP as little one is still gaining weight!
I'm quite lucky that I've had amazing support from my midwives/medical team so got antibiotics quickly and I've gone and have had multiple ultrasounds over the last two weeks and had the lump aspirated 3x and was told that it is a galactocele. The infection and pain has reduced but unfortunately I've been told that by the nature of having a cavity in my breast, it will backfill with milk again and one of the doctors I spoke to yesterday said that the lump may not go until I stop breastfeeding completely (I had hoped to breastfeed for at least 9mos if not longer!). Another doctor said that it may reduce but it will take months.
So I'm wondering, to anyone that has had a galactocele, how long did it take for your lump to dissipate and did you have to wait until you stopped breastfeeding?
Thank you!
