New in town - how to meet people?

Hello everybody, I(31F) just moved to Manchester from a different country to join my husband. I don't know anybody here and I would love to make some new friends.

Do you know of any occasions/social events where it wouldn't be awkward to come and join people? I'm pretty extroverted and I love animals(had to leave my elderly dog with my parents as the move would be too much for him), so something like community dog walks or just anything where people wouldn't look at me funny for joining them would be wonderful.
