How to avoid getting poisoned by pain thinner?

I’m about to start using oil paint and I found out that the paint thinner is high toxic!!! um so how do I avoid dying? I know that I need ventilation but when I’m not drawing and I still have it in my bedroom (i paint in my bedroom), how do i avoid getting poisoned as I sleep? should I put it elsewhere? get a lid?? I also had a question about how much paint I use. I worked with acrylic before so I’m used to paint being cheap and using a large amount of it in one go. But since oil paint is suuuper expensive, I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to use as much.. i’ve seen artists use only a little bit a paint as they filled out this giant canvas; if they have so little paint how do they fill out the whole canvas? does the linseed oil expand the amount of it??? erm anyways, if you have any other important tips pls tell me!!!
