Carrie breaking up with Aidan rather than marrying him is unrealistic
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I am now rewatching the show now for the first time over 30 and I just got to the part where Carrie breaks up with Aidan rather than marry him. I couldn’t stop yelling at my tv. It just seemed so unrealistic to me that this woman whose whole life is focused on finding “the one” and has struggled for years dating in NY is over 35, has this good looking man who she is in love with and proposed to her and just bought her apartment, and she is like nah. Rather than marry him I’d rather go through another painful breakup, go back to being single in nyc, and owe $40,000 for my down payment or be homeless, whatever. He didn’t do anything wrong but, meh. Like I’m sorry but no one would make this decision. It seemed like the writers had to make her end the relationship because they wanted her to end up with Big and “their story wasn’t over yet” or whatever, but it was extremely hard for me to buy. I don’t think anyone in their right mind would make this decision in real life.
