PSA: psychedelics elevate your heart rate. BY A LOT.

ETA: I'm on Qelbree, that might be part of the problem ETA2: Qelbree is definitely part of the problem. I forgot to take it last night, and my bpm was 74 this morning (I'm using my Muse every day).

Hello fellow psychenauts!

I did another trip over the weekend, with the Muse 2 headset on. Along with brainwaves, it monitors heart rate. Guess what I discovered?

Shrooms elevate your heart rate. And not just briefly - I was clocking an average of 112 bpm at 7am the next day, while calm, during meditation, and after waking. I had an average of 129 bpm while tripping (late morning). Granted I am old (50s) and out of shape (80-90bpm RHR), but +30-40 bpm is a lot.

I did some research and discovered a bunch of science journal entries about psychedelics elevating heart rate. It's clearly a known thing, but not a fact that's entered the public or the community yet. Unfortunately, I didn't find any "popular science", "consumer" or "general public" articles, which (IMHO) is what's needed. BTW, this applies to all hallucinogens (LSD, for example), it's not specific to shrooms.

Anyhow, by all means look this up instead of just taking my word for it. About 36 hours after tripping I was back to normal, more or less. And the work I'm doing - being able to approach the degree of egolessness that's normally only possible after much more meditation work than I've been able to complete - is totally worth it.
