Give me pointers pre sleep training

I just got the go ahead from my pediatrician to sleep train my 4 month old. We are going to give him a couple days to recover from getting his vaccines and planning to start sleep training next week since we don’t have much on the calendar. I have a couple questions and I’m looking for any advice you have to offer. Here is some helpful info…

I follow age appropriate wake windows but usually watch for sleepy cues. This varies from day to day but wake windows are usually between 1.5-2 hours. He wakes up at 8 every day and goes to bed at 8 every day. For bedtime routine we start at 7:30 and do low lights and lullaby, nurse, wipe down or bath, lotion, diaper change, pj’s and sleep sack, pacifier, prayer, white noise/lights out, rock till drowsy(usually only a couple minutes), then in crib drowsy but awake by 8. We do a dream feed anytime between 10-11 pm.

I believe the main culprit of bad sleep is pacifier falling out during sleep cycles. Doctor recommends ditching it, but I’m most nervous for this. I like that it lowers risk of SIDS and helps him find comfort when I’m not there. I also really don’t want a thumb sucker.

I’m planning to do interval check ins/ferber method. And mostly have my husband check in so baby knows not to expect milk. We are not going to pick up and avoid eye contact however we will place a hand on his belly and softly tell him we are here, he is safe, and leave within the minute.

Any advice or revisions you would recommend? Im curious which intervals we should use for check ins. I’m also wondering how you would go about pacifier weaning if we go through with it. Do you do it before sleep training or simultaneously? Can I just take the pacifier away at night time but still give it to him during day time if needed (I like to have it for church and when we are in public)?

Thank you!!
