Struggling with stats- is sociology right for me?
Hi, I’m sorry if this type of post isn’t allowed, I read through the rules and this isn’t asking about like a specific school or career path so I think it’s fine? If it’s not, please point me in the direction of a subreddit where this type of thing is allowed.
Anyways, I’m struggling and in need of some genuine advice. (Credits wise) I have two and a half years of college under my belt as a sociology major. And previously, I was doing really well with sociology, getting As and Bs in all of my sociology courses. Im really really passionate about the topic; I love studying about why our society is the way that it is and how different sociologists like durkheim have come up with theories to explain why humans act in accordance to society. I could infodump for hours about things like divisions of labor, the flaws in our legal system, theories of suicide, etc. however, I’ve hit a major roadblock in my sociology college career. I’ve been unable to pass the required stats course (SOC 396) needed for the major. I’ve never been good at math and have both autism and adhd so it’s hard for me to focus and complete work when it’s not inherently interesting to me (this has been an issue with some gen ed courses as well). I know I can always retake the course and possibly hire a tutor to help me get through it all but I worry about if a future in a sociology career path is right for me if I’m struggling this much with stats. How relevant has statistics (and I don’t mean looking at already gathered and analyzed data at face value, I mean like actually going into excel, coming up with equations, finding p values, standard deviations, etc.) been for you guys in graduate school and your future sociological careers? Is it too late to switch my major? I genuinely need some advice
