Lost about CSE Thesis

I’m doing my fourth year of SENG next year and am completely lost with the thesis requirement. I’m aware of the structure of assessments but don’t know how I’m supposed to find a topic and supervisor that I won’t regret later.

Going through the topics, most seem to be centred around AI which is something I have no course work or extra curricular experience in. The other topics seem similarly difficult.

Is my thesis topic something I’m meant to have sufficient background knowledge in? Could some students share how they went abut choosing their topics or recommend good supervisors if possible?
